Temeraire!!!!!!!!!!

I can’t believe it!!! Omg. I’ve finally found what I’ve been looking for since last year. ‘Temeraire’!!!!!! A trilogy fantasy story by Naomi Novik. I think I’ve mentioned it a few times last year too. I searched for it EVERY time I went to MPH but I was always disappointed. I actually have not read any books written by this author but I think these books will be nice. I was interested in the book after reading one chapter of it from a publisher’s website. I so so wanted to finish the story after that but I had to wait because the books weren’t in publication yet…… But even after that, I couldn’t find the book anywhere. I almost didn’t believe it when I saw it just now though. I was like, ‘no way…… it can’t be!!!’. However, it was really true and when I managed to open the file, there were not one, but all three books inside!!!!! I’m so estatic now. :) :) :) :) :)

BUT, bio and physic topic test coming up…….. How??? I’ve already started reading the book. I don’t think I can stop. I can practically see myself neglecting my studies for the next few days…. and I’m not sure whether I’ll be able to survive 4 days of the camp without finishing the story. Arghh!!!!

What’s the story about anyway? Basically, it’s set during the War between England and France and apart from battleships, they have ‘aviators’ aka Dragon Riders (Hmm… Eragon??? >.< so nothing’s original. Heck) who battle it out in the sky. So there was this naval captain who suddenly finds himself being chosen by a dragonet (hatchling) even though he doesn’t want anything to do with flying. But he has to accept (obviously!) and so the story goes on…. I’ll tell after I’m finished with it.

What so special about this book then???? Good story telling I guess. Imagine, I was hooked just after a few pages and reading ONE chapter was enough to make me so curious about the book I’m willing to buy it. I mean, Eragon didn’t even heat up till around the middle and this is only one chapter……

*faints*

test, blood, books, and what nots…..

After being under constant pressure from various parties (read: my roommates, classmates, ex college mates etc) to update my blog. I’ve finally decided to knuckle down and oblige them with whatever I’m able to spew of the top of my head now. (I’m writing this in Microsoft Word as I couldn’t load my wordpress dashboard now).

I was pretty busy last week what with my issue analysis, lab reports, math topic test, upcoming ethics presentation, bio and physic topic test, BTN, PQA test (for Uni Adelaide)!!! (all in two weeks). :P But I’m not trying to create an excuse for myself, (everyone I know here are up to their ears with something or other). Thankfully there’ll be a long awaited (and much needed) break in two weeks time. I desperately need that time to recuperate and prepare myself for the onslaught of trial exams and finals that will start in September.

It just suddenly dawned on me that my final SABSSA exam is less than 90 days away. I know that it’s in November but somehow it never occurred to me that my time is getting dismally limited. I’m glad I realised it now rather than after the hols as I’m sure Nov 6 will definitely look so much more closer on the other side of August. >.< Imagine ‘it’ creeping up behind me unnoticed and then ‘BOO!’ it springs up in front of me like jack in the box…… I think I’ll get a heart attack (which is not undesirable as I can then be termed an ‘invalid’ and thus be exempted from taking the exams….). But it’s all wistful thinking so I think I’d better face reality and the ‘less than desirable’ prospect of having to take my finals in Nov.

I noticed that more and more ausmat students are starting their own blogs. I have to say it’s rather surprising but I’m more than happy to have a few extra blogs to read and to make up for some *ahem* lack of updates of other blogs that I usually frequent. (rant to aiming: what happened to you?!?! I missed reading your blog). I think Fong has also killed his blog (at least that’s what I understood from his msn). So I could only find solace in reading Loh’s blog which he has faithfully updated every Monday.
Speaking of which,
directed to Panthera: If you’re reading this, I’m really interested in knowing how your new hairstyle looks so if its not inconvenient for you, I hope you’ll be able to post your picture up soon or if (as you always implied), you don’t want to give your visitors a nightmare after looking at your picture, email me one then. Thanks also for ‘informing’ me about the change in your preference. Lol. No need to send picture for that. Does she know?? Anyway, its always very hard for me to open the ‘comment’ page so I’m writing them all down here. Hopefully you’ll read it soon….

Another thing, has anyone read the book ‘Girl With a Pearl Earring’? I think its by Tracy Chevalier. I’m very much interested to know whether it’ll be worth buying or not (but if anyone has it and would be so kind as to lend it to me….. ;) ). Problem is, I haven’t the opportunity to go anywhere that is remotely close to MPH so I don’t have the chance to take a look at the book. I have also made up my mind to get for myself the book ‘Pride & Prejudice’. Hard to believe that I don’t have that book yet considering the number of times that I’ve read it. Happily, I am not lacking in books to read. I’ve finished the ‘Count of Monte Cristo’ again (this is highly recommended), ‘Eragon’,‘Mammon.Inc’, ‘Everyone Worth Knowing’, ‘The Subtle Knife’ (I didn’t know that it has been sitting in my laptop all this while…), and I’m now on ‘Nicholas Nickleby’ which I managed to prise from Chin Pin. I guess that explains where all my time was wasted. I know I have to seriously stop myself from reading fiction till the end of this year but the mere idea of depriving myself of storybooks for such a long period is enough to make me faint. My conscience is not much of a help there……

The education faculty organised an education fair this few days. There were supposedly lots of activities but their posters, which were not lacking, were about as informative as my high school textbooks (which were no help at all) since they happily wrote ‘Venue: Booth’ in most of them. (I mean: !!!!). Plus, the activities were scattered over the whole campus so I only managed to visit the few that were held near the ausmat block. I’m also positive that I saw one with the words ‘Are You Dare?’ printed boldly on top a poster that told something of a fear factor themed activity. I mean, coming from a group of ‘would-be’ and supposedly qualified educators, that’s a bit hard to believe…… Anyway, the exhibition that I went to was mostly bout art so there were rock painting, batik painting, ‘inai’ (spelling??) etc going on there. Two of my classmates got this really nice pattern done on their hand.  There was also a blood donation drive going on. I very much wanted to donate but I was unfortunately 4 / 5 kg short of the minimum weight plus, the last time I check, I also did to reach the minimum haemoglobin count. (So I guess I am in need of some blood transfusion. Lol). Went along with my friends and played photographer for them by helping them to take pictures of their first time donating blood. Hehe…

Phew, I guess that should be enough for now. I’ve exhausted my resources trying to come up with a post of reasonable length to sort of make up for my previous lack of updates. I have not learnt my lesson though and anyone who thinks that I’ll diligently update my blog after this, well, to quote one character (I forgot) from the book ‘All American Girl’ by Meg Cabot, ‘You have a think coming’. I will abuse my right to neglect my blog as much as I wish and will not submit to anything short of a life or death threat from any of you. So there! Hmph.

(ps* Ignore the last paragraph or at least don’t take it too seriously. I was just trying to be dramatic).
