Snakes.
I watched ‘Snakes on a Plane’ on Friday. Went to Sunway for a while and since there was absolutely NO other movies to chose from (me being not too enthusiastic with horror films), Snakes was the only film that agreed with us. Plus it was showing at a convenient time.
I wasn’t expecting much from the movie, no matter that it had a cult following in the internet community almost a year before its release. I cannot comprehend how a movie that is set in an airplane can be exciting. I mean, there are only so many things that can happen in the plane (that’s why I never bothered to watch ‘Flight Plan’ – Jodie Foster is it?). The filmmakers obviously included every element, eg: pilot dies, plane plummets, panicky passengers, passenger losing their cool and turning on each other, brave airhostess…… everything. I think the only original thing was the snakes being smuggled on the plane (maybe we could make one with mutant spiders next time??? Cos alligators would be too large).
However, it wasn’t a total waste of money either. There were plenty of funny bits, and pretty gross scenes too. I think some were snipped too. The ending was a bit lame though, Jackson suddenly decides he has enough of these pestering snakes (which instinctively left him pretty much alone, I think these computer generated snakes ‘knew’ he was ‘The Star’ you see), so he got everyone to buckle up and shot open two windows. The poor snakes were then sucked out into the open air and it was over?!?! Of course there was the tricky part of landing without a pilot but apparently, anyone who has clocked 2000 miles on a flight simulator (or a PS2 for that matter) can handle it pretty well, as demonstrated by one of the passengers. Of course, the restart-just-before-you-crash button wasn’t included in the control panel as the person later found out. Lol. It was a happy ending. =)
I don’t think I’ll have any second thoughts about taking flying in a plane. Nor will I have phobia of snakes. Although my friend did say something about checking for snakes the next time he boards a plane. Lol. My verdict, not recommended unless you need to while away the time. The movie it pretty short, 1 and a half hours only. Wait a few years until TV3 airs it.
Talking bout movies, Eragon is coming out this December, and Philip Pullman’s ‘His Dark Materials’ will be out next year. =) And I’m interested to watch ‘Marie Antoinette’ too. I prefer watching movies that have more varied scenes rather than only one setting. Of course, epic ones are even better. Maybe I take it too seriously. After all, it’s only for entertainment but I like those that are really far fetched and not too ‘real life’. Something that is not possible in our everyday lives. Hence stuff like LOTR, and Star Wars…… I’d readily watch them. I also have this habit of trying to think how some particular scenes are shot. I’ve been doing that since I was a kid, with advertisements, I’d always wondered how the products seem to fly around…… Haha…… Actually, the methods that I thought of last time were very funny since I still didn’t know anything about filmmaking.
Trials starting on the 22nd September. I have less than three weeks to prepare for it. >.<
