Sleepy me
I’ll admit, I have this tendency to doze of during classes. No matter how many hours of sleep I had the night before, once I’m sitting at my table in class, I won’t last 5 minutes. =P The rest of the double period will then be a series of disjointed consciousness where I struggle to keep awake and the urge to just ZZzz…… Most of the time, I end up with fragments of lesson that make absolutely no sense to me since I seem to be in limbo at those crucial moments when my lecturer is explaining something new or important. I admire Ru Xing tremendously, she can stay awake from 8 - 4 while me and ling weng doze off. haha… I happen to sit in the first row too, right smack in the middle of the room. So my lecturers will definitely know when I’m NOT paying attention (and since I have not perfected the art of doing this even after one year’s worth of practice), its a wonder none of them has whacked me on the head out of exasperation yet.
However, I chanced upon this article a few days ago discussing why teenagers tend to be night owls, not going to bed until the wee hours of the morning. Thus, we generally act like zombies the next morning. My housemate is a coffee junkie (she denies it vehemently). Anyway, apparently studies conducted by some National Sleeping Foundation (I think??!?!) in the US has found that teenagers sleep like so because we’re growing. >.< So Around this period, we tend to be night owls while as we get older, we’ll gradually shift towards the ‘normal’ pattern and finally becoming morning larks when we’re old grannies and grandpas.
There’s more, because we are forced to wake up when we’re supposed to be sleeping (remember those days when school starts at the crazy hour of 7.00 in the morning and we have to wake up at 5 am to get there on time?), we do not fuction properly, as in, we do not perform our best. (Argh, our finals start at 7.00am!!!)
In conclusion, I think it’ll be highly desirable if our classes start at 9/10am. Anyone with me?
