2nd post in adelaide

Well, I won’t be post that often as out uni only gives us a 150MB download quota. Basically, my life here has been fun. Met lots of new people….. =) There are 160 1st year med students here with only 15 international students (so cool!!!! the rest from around aus so everyone’s speaking with this really cool accent which isn’t that hard to catch. really, the really hard ones are those from hong kong. Totally don’t get what they’re saying and they say we malaysians speak too fast?!?!? Oh ya, my housemate from China, spouting out chinese so fast I couldn’t get her straight. She kept using ‘zhan men’ instead of ‘wo’. tsk. but she doing her masters degree…..)But I digress, so ya, I’ve met all of them(the int med students). Its compulsory for us to take language classes. =P My timetable looks really hectic. 8am till 4/5 pm daily. I hv to walk to school since the free bus service ONLY starts at 8+am….. and erm the place I’m staying is in the city itself (so is the uni) and is therefore considered ‘near’. Well, it’s 30 minutes of BRISK walking (SO good exercise). Thank god I bought my new pair of Nike shoes. They’re great for walking!!! lol. I’m already spending more than I ought. Officially left with $3 since I paid $120 for the med camp which I was later told involve mostly clubbing and drinking during the nights and other crazy activities during the day (if you’re not suffering from hangover, I think).

Apparently, the surrent batch of 2nd year students are pretty ‘crazy’ (opinion from their 3rd year and above seniors). Haha.. but they’re all really friendly and helpful. Nice. And the craziness is part of the package. During our Oweek, this REALLY IMPORTANT professor gave us this really serious, inspiring, convincing speech cum lecture which ended in tears for him. Haha…. they never really told us but it sort of leaked out that it was actually a 6th year student fooling us. tergamak pula. That’s just one of their practical jokes. No harm done tho…. lol. Also heard that one of the fourth yr student is actually a part time male stripper. (!!!!) Couldn’t believe it. Anatomy lesson.

So far…. I’m loving it here. Life at The Village is great cos every other night, some people will play their DVDs on the projector and anyone can just sit down together and watch. Library, China Town, Central Market etc etc are just less than 10 minutes walk so like you got no excuse not to walk….. but weather is getting better. Temperature droping although its still sunny but, yeah, more tolerable.

message me ur number ppl!!!

O’week at Adelaide!!!

I know I’ve been MIA for bout a week. That’s cos I didn’t bring my internet cable with me so I can’t go online. Right now, I borrowed my housemate’s cable. So I’ll make this pretty quick.

Today was the first day of our orientation week which includes not only international but local students as well. =) I had a blast here. There is just so many things to do!!!! OMG, and the amount of alcohol that we’ve been given……. 0_o lol. I’ve was even told that the Uni adelaide med students are the hardest drinkers. The 2nd years even had this skull dudgery event going on…. which means you pay $30 to drink the night away. Haha…. Oh, and they’re like the best drinking team in australia. =P

I’ve yet to meet all of the med 1st years but so far, the only other international student I’ve met is Gen from Singapore. (!!!) The rest are like all from around australia……. Really fun, cos I get to meet the locals. A plus side when you’re one of the only two malaysians there. =) So cool!!! lol.

Oh yeah, and the freebies they give out during O’week is just fantastic. You get anything and everything!!! mugs, water, magnets, condoms, sweets, drinks, stickers……. OMG. And I even got this BOOK from Random House. Can’t wait to start reading it. It’s ‘I am the voice left from rehab’. I was estatic when I saw we get free books.

I’m staying at ‘The Village’ university apartments. Super expensive but the place is so GREAT! It’s beautiful and the rooms are real nice, comfortable, not cramped at all and we have a really nice lounge complete with big screen projectors for movie screenings and Xbox with a few games included. (!!!) Ping pong table, pool table!!! and barbeque pit. I got to meet lots of new people, especially japanese. =) but the are others from all over the world as well. Even some from Kenya. It’s a really good mix. =)

I’really sorry for not posting any pictures, haha… too distrated by everything that I’m experiencing. So far everything is great, cept for the weather which is geting unbearable but yeah, adelaide is a really nice city. Not too big so everything is within walking distance. SO convenient!!!! Love it!

oh, my contact is 0431099625. email chien.poh[at]student.adelaide.edu.au

ps* I can’t use msn here. Only accessible when I’m at the library. =(

pps* Oh ya, know why I love uni Adelaide???? It’s because of the buildings!!!! I know it’s kinda stupid and irrevelant to choosing your uni and no I didn’t make up my mind based on that but at least I wasn’t dissapointed when I got it. I just love those old structures. Somehow it just seems right for a uni to have all this old architecture. I’d be misable if I hv to study at a uni with modern buildings. truly. There’s even one which has the floor slightly tilted so if you place a ball at one end, it’ll roll down to the other. So cool. lol.

Another way to while away my time…

And so we went bowling today at the Sutera Harbour Clubhouse. I confess I prefer it much more to CPS bowl. Cleaner shoes, better lanes, plus no crowd. We were practically the only people there and so were the only witnesses to our (or my) embarrassing gutter performances. OK, they were a few lucky strikes but they don’t count. I admit I’ll definitely wake up with a sore arm tomorrow but I think it’s worth it.

Let the game begin!!

packing, repacking, packing…..

I’ve finally figured out how not to exceed the 20kg baggage limit. Since the empty luggage bag itself eats up 3-4 kg of our precious allowance, I’m thinking of discarding my biggest bag in favour of boxes instead!!! =) they’re virtually weightless so I think that’ll solve most of my luggage problem.

Somebody tell me its a crazy idea…..

Yesterday’s ‘yamcha’ session was fun. and Coffee Bean Sabah still serves Roast Beef Sandwich!! I miss it so much.

nothing to do….

Knowing that I won’t be leaving so soon makes me breath a sigh of relief. I wouldn’t mind having to leave early but there is still that reluctant feeling hovering somewhere inside me. I don’t know why it is so. Of course having nothing much to occupy my mind is also bothering me since I feel really restless walking around my house. There’s only so many times one can go out ‘yamcha’ with one’s friends. And most of my KK friends have already left to pursue their studies. Felicia left last month to Adelaide with her brother, Kylie’s leaving tomorrow for Adelaide too, Aiming going soon to Brisbane…. Fong left d, and the rest scattered around KL… *sigh*

Suddenly, I feel that I must say my goodbyes to the various places in KK. My school, the beach, the islands, the malls, the cinema, and I couldn’t remember the last time I had a swim at the Golf Club. Can’t believe it. I’m staying like 5 minutes away from it but I don’t think I’ve set foot in it for the last 2 years at least.

IN the mean time…. Janeites can check out this site.
