The Super long overdue update
Altho it is only March and I have now only gone through 3 weeks of uni, it feels like months to me. I keep thinking it is April which is not good because April means one month nearer to exams. -_-”
Anyway, I wanted to much to blog about how I felt on first coming back, how I like my new place, how Oweek at uni was, how seeing everyone after 4 months of absence was so fun etc and etc but it is all too long ago and it all seems irrelevant now. We’ve all settled down (almost) into our own routines and going about each doing our own stuff. All the excitement, happiness, hyper-jumping-long-time-no-see-how-was-hols?? screams over and done with.
Here are some pictures of stuff that I managed to cram in before school started until yesterday.
1. Handle with Care: South Australian Biennial Art Exhibition
Went with a few friends to the twilight premier. This year, I am determined to explore the arts and culture that I did not bother too last year. That’s part of the point of studying overseas, to experience new stuff that you don’t usually get at home =).
Pictures are a bit blurry because we weren’t allowed to take pictures of the exhibits anyway. They were all really nice to look at. Very aesthetic and the detail that went into some pieces were really amazing. I didn’t really see the point of some of the video exhibit though…. lol

my favourite section, the reason I persuaded everyone to go with me to this exhibition. =P

2. Northern Light Spectacular
Right after the exhibit was the Northern Light Spectacular which is still going on right now. Most buildings along the North terrace are projected with interchanging patterns and designs. It really lends a funky character to the buildings which are actually pretty drab during the day.

the few of us who were there

3. Med Camp 2008
The traditional initiation of first years into the crazy med family at University of Adelaide =). I was so glad that I attended last year and I would never miss it on purpose. Not being a 1st year anymore, we were only allowed into the camp on the 2nd night when anyone from 1st year till sixth can come visit the first years, watch the traditional boat racing competitions, and dance the night away.

More pictures in facebook.
It was terribly cold that night and in the wee hours of the morning it got down close to 3 degrees which was freezing if you don’t have a sleeping bag to wrap yourself in. I woke up and couldn’t go back to sleep after that. Didn’t help that I only managed to get a few hours sleep before that. First years get proper beds in cosy little dormitories while the rest of us got the huge hall which was infested with huge spiders the size of my palm. (Was woken up in the middle of the night by my friend and we saw one crawling over the back of another girl sleeping behind me -_-”. Spent a few minutes trying to trap the spider in a beer cup and my slipper without waking the girl.)
4. Midsummer’s Night Dream
One of the many shows put on during the Adelaide Fringe which is the largest theater arts festival in the Southern Hemisphere. I wanted to go for the ‘Death by Chocolate’ murder case interactive whereby visitors get to sample chocolates, interview suspects and determine who is the murderer etc but it sold out before long before I could get tickets -_-”. Midsummer’s was nice though, earlier shows were sold out as well leaving the late 9pm one which we quickly bought before it was gone as well. It was pretty much like old-fashioned theater, staged out of doors under the stars with the us the audience sitting around in a circle surrounded by fairy lights, sipping on our free cocktail, being entertained by the talented actors. The occasionaly summer breeze will swirl and circle between us, rustling the leaves and grass making us believe that we were really in the Enchanted Forrest of Shakespeare watching the Fairie Queen herself in her bower.

5. President’s Keg
The annual party thrown by the new President of the Adelaide Medical Students Society (AMSS) for all meddies. A fun night of socialising, dancing and inevitably drinking as well. Highlight of the night involve watching the president skolling alcohol while everyone tries to get him as drunk as possible.

Outside our place before going to the Estonian Hall at North Adelaide

The president for 2008, Chris Wong skolling his wine.
6. Jazz Night (yesterday)
Also another annual event held at the Elder Park, Rotunda down by the Torrens River. A classy pinic - style night of watching the sunset and dancing to jazz music this year supplied by Andrew and his band, the Love Supreme. =) Barbeque, cheese, crackers, yummy dips and lots of finger food plus good wine. Haha, finally got to open my bottle of Frontignac. Lots of Chardonnay circulating around. It was freezing cold yesterday night though, 11 degrees. =P I manage to sneek a new packet of Brie cheese home after that since it was dark and people were leaving for the after party. David even took a whole unopened bottle of Reisling back. (!!!) I hope the owner of that bottle is too drunk to notice. It was a Jacobs Creek wine some more!!!

After party as usual at The Oxford which I never go to anyway. I never go the the after party. =P
This is the end. No more social events for the rest of the year except for Med Ball and and of term party. Dinner with some friends tonight with Dion’s birthday party after that, Andrew’s house party tomorrow, Clarissa’s birthday on Sunday, nothing on Monday (I guess people need to recover from their hangovers).
Till then. I will post pictures of my room once I am satisfied with it. Moved lots of furniture around to maximise what little space I have and thinking of how best to decorate my room. =P
Longest post ever? =)
