I stumbled upon this website this morning by pure accident. Stuff White People Like is a really funny blog about everything caucasian and interestingly enough, the entries do seem to ring true. At least to me. It really does seem like a correct outsider’s observation about the ‘white people’ population. Here’s an excerpt from their site:

They love nothing better than sipping free-trade gourmet coffee, leafing through the Sunday New York Times, and listening to David Sedaris on NPR (ideally all at the same time). Apple products, indie music, food co-ops, and vintage T-shirts make them weak in the knees.

They pretend to be unique, yet somehow they’re all exactly the same, talking abut how they “get” Sarah Silverman’s “subversive” comedy and Wes Anderson’s “droll” films. They are also down with diversity and up on all the best microbrews, breakfast spots, foreign cinema, and authentic sushi. They’re organic, ironic, and do not own TVs.

I just did a quick scan through some of the entries, take a look at #111, #120, #122. I think this is gonna be a site to visit when I have nothing else better to do. Just for laughs.

I regret to say that I have neglected my blog. I am guilty. >.< From now on, I solemnly promise to TRY to update it as often as my schedule / mood / wi-fi connection / natural disasters (if there are any on Shah Alam) will allow.

On a lighter note, I’d like to wish all my a-level buddies ‘Happy Holidays!!!!’ as they have finished their a-levels exam (so lucky!!! I’m so jealous!!!) and are now enjoying their Well Deserved break. I Know that ALL of you will get really good results so don’t worry too much.  Even though I did hear that one of the Chemistry paper was a little ‘unexpected’.

It’s a pity really that my hols had to be at such an inconvenient moment. I missed meeting you all. Let me assure you that I positively rotted at home while you all were busy swotting for the exams. Plus, I’m sure all of you had a great time at the prom WHICH I MISSED AGAIN!!!! Fate is really Not Kind with me for this part. I can’t believe that you all were enjoying yourself at Pan Pac while I was spending my night in my hostel. I need pictures. Hopefully, some kind Samaritan will oblige to send me some. ;D I’ve already seen the graduation photos (thanks to Jeremy).

As for me, I’m now in my last semester of SAM, and that means like having my nose in the grindstone from now onwards till 15 November. So, scratch out the bit that I wrote just now about updating my blog more often. It seems like an impossible feat. Then again, maybe not. Oh, nevermind. (I don’t think I’m making sense here so I’ll start with a new paragraph).

Hmm… I bought a few books last month. Right after my semester exams, I took off to mid valley where I spent about an hour stuck in MPH much to my friend’s dismay. In the end, I managed to narrow down my choice of books to 3 and my friend practically dragged me to the cashier before I changed my mind again. Next, we did a bit of window shopping and I was obliged to accompany my friend to try on a few dresses. She insisted that I had to try them on too. (This is so not me. I’m more prone to just selecting at random and hope for the best?! Ok, maybe not so drastic. But I hardly try out clothes just for the sake of it.) She was already keeping an eye out for prom dresses even though it’s still the month of MAY and our prom is not until NOVEMBER!!! Needless to say, we were awarded dirty looks that the sales assistant reserved specifically for ‘pretend’ customers (eg. Those who are not planning to buy anything). I noticed it as we were trooping to the fitting rooms for the, um, 3rd time.

I’m currently reading ‘Sophie’s World’ by Jostein Gaarder. I did mention that I bought it in an earlier post. I haven’t got the time to read it until recently. However, I think this is the longest time I took to read a book. I had to stop after every chapter or so to ponder about the stuff written inside. That’s what happens when you attempt to read philosophy. But this is much simpler and not at all like the philosophy textbooks. I still have about 4 more chapters to go. So far, all that I have managed to read and understand have made me look at things differently; some of those thoughts have never even crossed my mind…..

Another one is ‘Conrad’s Fate’ by Diana Wynne Jones. Let me tell you, if you haven’t read it. Go and GET one NOW.

I was browsing through the .Net Magazine (Really nice magazine for those who love webdesign etc) recently and I came across this site. Apparently they’re now giving awards to blogs. Almost like the booker prize. I haven’t visited the site yet (I blame this on the crappy wi-fi connection) but I will asap.

I stumbled upon this site accidentaly. I have to say it looks very interesting. not the site. It’s the new blogging tool that it offers. So much more simple and easier to use compared to what I’m using now (wordpress). If I still had my own domain, I would have tried it out immediately. But it’s still new…. not as developed as wordpress yet, give it some more time and I think it’ll be all over the internet. At the moment, wordpress is still THE blogging tool.

hmm…. I’m supposed to be attempting the first draft for my chemistry social relevance task project. It’s basically a project where we write about something related to chemistry and the society. I decided to report about glass. I am regretting it now because apparently it isn’t as easy as I think it would be. So while my roomates (who have the sense to do easier topics like greenhouse effect, ozone depletion etc) are happily collecting their information and writting their first drafts, I’m struggling with my outline, trying to keep it to a minimal so as not to exceed the word limit. >.< I found this website while reading some older posts from another blog (here). It has plenty of really inspirational stuff. Some of these people had all the odds against them and they still managed to pull through. It reminded me that I’m actually having a pretty easy life and if I don’t appreciate it, then I’m throwing away all this wonderful oppotunities that are given to me. I’ve always wondered what would happen to me in the future and sometimes, I don’t dare to change things much in case everything goes wrong and I won’t be able to pick up where I went wrong…… but then I would be asking myself whether things would have been better if I had done this or that……

I’m dropping in to recomend another book. ‘Under an English Heaven’ by Robert Radcliffe. I don’t have much time left so I won’t elaborate about it. I’d just say that it’s really good. Google it for a review or summary.

and also another site, about writting mostly. tips and resources and stuff. Haven’t got the time to really browse it but it looks interesting.

ps* I can’t believe that I have one year’s worth of posts in my old site. I can’t transfer it over to my new blog. Seems such a waste. All my memories will be gone. Just like that. Maybe it’s better to keep a manually written diary then?
